Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Sales Soar During Pandemic

pennsylvania marijuana sales soar during pandemic

There is no doubt that COVID-19 has challenged many of us with a new reality, especially medical marijuana patients. Despite the pandemic causing everyone to adapt to different daily routines, Pennsylvania dispensaries have reported seeing more patients than ever before!

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Pennsylvania dispensaries have reported a significant increase in patients visiting to purchase their medical cannabis. Dispensaries have reported seeing up to 70% more patients since February. The number of weekly patient visits to dispensaries across Pennsylvania has jumped from 70,000 to 120,000. Since February, dispensaries have grossed $385 million in cannabis products, which is comparable to how much they have made in total for the past two years.

In addition to an increased percentage of patients visiting the dispensary, research also revealed which conditions patients were purchasing their medical cannabis to treat. The most common condition found was chronic pain: 37% of medical marijuana patients in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with chronic pain, while 24% are using medical marijuana to treat PTSD.

The state has also helped patients by extending the amount of cannabis they are allowed to obtain at one time from a 30-day supply, to a 90-day supply.

As medical marijuana remains an essential service during the pandemic, dispensaries, and clinics are doing everything they can to help meet this demand.
