Four medical marijuana dispensaries to open in Pennsylvania this summer

Updated: Jun 27, 2023

After delays due to the coronavirus shutdown and new health guidelines, four new medical marijuana dispensaries are set to open in Pennsylvania later this summer.

Jushi Holdings Inc. (Jushi) out of Boca Raton, Florida will open dispensaries in Philadelphia, Reading and Pottsville and will go by the brand name Beyond Hello. Dispensaries in Philadelphia and Reading will be located in the downtown areas. The dispensary in Pottsville will be the first store in the area.

PharmaCann Penn LLC, under the brand name Verilife, is set to open in Shamokin in late July. On March 3, the company purchased the 4,700 square-foot lot on N. Shamokin Street.

Currently, the state is home to roughly 80 dispensaries.

The opening of the dispensaries is described as a win-win, bringing local jobs and revenue sources to the communities. According to Jushi, dispensaries hire about 15 employees per location.

Upon acquiring Franklin Bioscience-Penn LLC and all of its subsidiaries in July, Jushi’s permit allows the company to operate up to 15 dispensaries in Pennsylvania. The company calls Pennsylvania “one of the most attractive medical cannabis markets in the country” and is working on expanding its footprint in other key markets across the U.S.

Founded in 2014, PharmaCann is licensed in eight states. The dispensary permit for the Shamokin location was issued in December 2018.
